Ten Years of Pink Wednesdays

Hello All,
How many cultural phenomenons have last the test of time and remained so quotable even 10 years later? I can't think of many. But one that I can think of is the ever popular Mean Girls, that came out exactly 10 years ago today.

This movie took a funny spin on a big issue that still haunts America today, bullying.

For those of you who have lived under a rock for the past ten years Mean Girl is about a girl, Cady Herron (Lindsey Lohan) who was home schooled up until her sophomore year of college. Not only that but she was home schooled in Africa. When she first moves to town she befriends two kids who are consider outcast. But soon she is notice by the most popular girls in school, the plastics. The movie follows her through her journey of finding her place in high school.

The movie was one that I remember people quote in middle school and high school and if you didn't know what they were walking about you were consider weird.

When I first saw the movie I didn't like!

But then everyone and their mother's (well not really there Mothers, Mama J would HATE mean girls if she watched it) was watching it. So, every time I went to someone's house we watched it. And the movie started growing on me. And as the movie started growing on me I started to also quote the movie.

So, today I hope that you are wearing pink in honor of the Mean Girls because you know...

Then & Now & The Future - The World According to Emma Turns 1!

Hello All,

Today is a happy day, today my bloggy baby turns 1 years old! That is 12 whole months that I have logged on to blogger and written post for myself and all you lovely readers in bloggy world! This is also been one of the most stressful, hardest, most anxious ridden year and because of that I am beyond grateful I had this space on the internet to go to when I needed escape or I wanted to share the happy times!

But for right now I want to take a look at where I was 365 days ago when I first started this blog, a look at where I am right now and where I think I'm going in the future with this space on the internet. (P.S. - This whole post was inspired by a post that the lovely Rachel did on her blog once upon a time)

When this blog started it was know as, A Future Teacher's College Life, now it is better known as The World According to Emma!

When I first started my blog I thought I would mainly only write about becoming a teacher and teaching related stuff. I never thought I would be writing about almost anything that I write now.

When I first started my blog I never would have thought I'd have schedule, now I blog Monday through Friday with post that go live at 7 AM.

When I first started I had a weekly feature known as...
Now I have so many features that come out whenever I feel like it!

When I first started I never would have thought I'd have a bloggy friend (Shout out to Natalie)

When I first started I had self made, blogger generic blog designs
Now I have a blog designed by the awesome Rachel!

When I first started I had long hair
You can kind of see the long hair - June 2013
Now my hair is shorter, I want it to grow out again!
It goes to just below the shoulders now - March 2014
When I first started out I never knew how important social media was to blogging. (Please excuse the  shameless plug: facebooktwitter and Instagram)

When I first started I never thought I'd have any readers ever! Now I have 16 on GFC and 23 on Bloglovin. Thank you all so much for the love! I love each and everyone of you as well.

When I first started blogging I never would have thought of starting a youtube channel, now i'm trying to figure out how to make it grow

When I first started blogging I don't really think I had a writing voice but now I think I have stronger one and I love it!

When I first started I had just gotten voted in to be the Secretary of the future teacher's club on my campus but now I'm getting ready to Step Down.

When I first started I never imagined the roller coaster this year would be emotional but now I know that having a place where I can write, where some people will read it will make me feel better. Even if  what I'm writing about has nothing to do with what is bothering me.

The future is a big scary place but I think that this blog's future is bright! I'm not getting ready to change many things but I will be honest that there might be some changes and I wanted to give you guys some previews.

I would like to host a link-up of my own creation, I'm even working of coming up with a theme.

I would like to strengthen relationships with my bloggy friends and make some new ones.

Sponsorship might be coming out soon, no promises yet!

There will be a new blogging schedule for the summer!

My cruise recap, summer 2014 and Junior year!

Thank you all for falling me along with me during this first year of blogging. I can't wait to see what the next year brings and can't wait to share it with you guys!

Stay tune for this years, this months stats and my favorite post of the year!

Relay for Life 2014

Hello All,

Happy Monday! I know that isn't something most people normally say but today is the last Monday of classes which means that I only have 2 weeks until summer.

This weekend I participated in my college's Relay for Life! When I woke up this morning it was gross and rainy but I hoped and prayed it would stop and it would be a nice night. Around three in the afternoon we headed to the field and we set up our fundraiser. Oh yeah, I was on my Future Teacher's Club's team. We were selling food and coffee and hot chocolate. We were very popular.

We were able to hang out for a while and chit chat. And they opened up some bounce houses and we played in those for a while. Soon, it was time for opening ceremonies. While opening ceremonies was happening we started to feel some rain drops. Bye the time that the caregivers lap (the second lap of the whole relay) the sky opened up and started to pour.

It spend the majority of  the night pouring. I went back and forth between walking and sitting at the table. Luckily our PR thought to bring a pop up tent and we put that over out table so we were somewhat guarded from the rain.

At around 9:30 we look at the doopler radar and saw a HUGE storm coming in about 30 minutes and decided that we should start packing up and get ready to leave. I know the idea is that cancer never stops so neither do you. But right now is not a time for any of us to get sick and decided that it would be best if we left. In all honesty most of the teams were packing up.

We were drench! My sneakers were like standing in a lake they were so filled with water. And I took a 30 minute long shower and was warming up nicely But it was run and worth it.

This year's theme was super heroes so we all made capes to match the theme. And of course I have some awesome pictures to share. A quick disclaimer, most of these pictures were taken by our income PR officer and I stole them from facebook, they only have my watermark on them so that our pictures aren't used on fake page.

On the bouncy game thing (LtoR: me, Deanna and Heather
All our our capes, I'm in the middle back row, the one not wearing a hood
The E-Board (LtoR: Me, Heather, Cyndi & Deanna)
Our whole team (LtoR: me, Heather, Becca, Deanna, Jaime and Cyndi in the center

And that was my school's Relay for Life. I am so grateful that my school puts this event on each year and can't wait until next years!

Things I Never Thought I'd Do

Hello All,

Yesterday I was scrolling through my bloglovin' feed and I came across a post done by Samantha from Life is But a Stream of Thoughts where she wrote about things she never thought she'd do. And after the year where I think changed the most I figure this would be a great post for me.

I never thought I'd...

-Find peace with the big decision that I made this year (Keep an eye out the post is coming up soon revealing the decision)

-Actually start a blog and fall as in love with as hard as I did. I always thought it was cool, and thought it was even cooler after watching  Awkward and now I think having one was cooler then I ever thought it would be.
Thanks for the inspiration Jenna

-Being an officer of a club and take on that much responsibility the same year that I decided to work during the school year instead of just during the summer

-Thought I would have this much difficulty with college, but at the same time that makes me even more determine to graduate

-I would shopping as much as I do, I love to dress to impress

-Write for the school paper.

-Be as social as I've become in college. I feel like I'm constantly saying to hi to people I've met in the dorms, class and clubs.

-Find a style of make-up I like and be one of those girls who actually wanted to wake up and do my make up.

-Want to start youtube channel (you can watch my most recent ones here and here)

-Look at myself in the mirror and think that I'm pretty 8 out of 10 times.

-Find support in reading other bloggers' blogs and realize that I am not alone

-Be as confident as I am know in my looks, my personality and where I think I'm going now.

What are some things you never thought you'd do?

-P.S. Happy Birthday to my awesome roommate Hannah!

GETTING READY TO SET SAIL: Dream OOTD {Week 12}

Hello All,

Happy Thursday! My cruise is only like 1 month away! As hard as I'm trying I think that I am on the verge of going on vacation mode and the last 2 weeks of the semester are going to be a struggle and going to drag! But I'm going to try and crank through it.

As weird as it may sound writing my weekly post about my cruise helps me get through the long weeks until cruise without going into full out vacation mode. So, shall we safe my sanity and get started?
So, I'm not a fashion blogger by any means. But I adore the clothing ideas that I find on Pinterest. So, when I was thinking up ideas for posts for this series (oh, yes I had a long list) I knew outfits were a must!
Then I had another question of whether to make one big post or two smaller divided post. So, hint hint foreshadow I decided to do two! So, this week is will be my dream wardobe for day time and next week will be my dream evening attire wardobe. Sound like a plan stans?
All of these outfits were found on pinterest and feel free to follow me here.

What I Love Wednesday...New York City!

Hello All,

Easter Sunday I was driving back to school from my aunt's house and part of the drive brought me through a small city and all I could think was how much I loved cities, with my favorite one being New York City! Which inspired todays post...

I love New York City because...

...you never know who you'll meet
Source
...so many great movies were filmed there
Source
...everyone has so many high expectations of but I think even the imperfections are perfect
Source
...that when I picture living there I don't picture living in Monica and Rachel's apartment
Source
but instead a crappy one.
Source
...it is a very diverse place
Source
...that you can walk so many different places
Source
...there all these fantastic shows that come out of NYC that are like nothing else in the world
Source
...that the city never sleeps
Source
...that you'll never know who you'll be

This is what I love this Wednesday. What are you loving this Wednesday? Let me know in the comments below.

Nicknames

Hello All,

For the past few weeks I have been thinking a lot about nicknames. Although very few people call me it, I do have a nick name, its Emma. I often call myself that in my head, or when I sign my name on emails, comments or when I put my name on my order at work.

My nickname like most Emmas and Emilys is Em. For the longest time Mama J refused to call me that, she would tell me she hated that nick name. For awhile she use to only cool  me Em when she was frustrated or mad at me. Strange huh? But now she calls me it quite a lot but it still comes out when she frustrated.

Then I have some people in my life who called me Em almost immediately after meeting me. I like this because it makes me feel like 1 we're really friends but also that I'm accepted by them.

Then there are people who are the polar opposite. I have had friends, multiple friends who when I tell them I like when people call me Em, look at me and go, nope I don't see it, you don't look like an Em. Which to me means that I don't look like and Emma because so many Emmas/Emilys go by Em.

But here's the thing, if you a Michael but want to be called Mike everyone is like okay, fair enough, makes sense. But for me Em is not a everybody nick name. Its a nickname that only the people that you are close to normally but those nicknames aren't the ones that come naturally with their names. Does that make sense?

Do you have a nick name that you wish people did or didn't call you? Let me know in the comments below.

BEAUTIFUL!

Hello All,

Happy Monday! I hope you enjoyed your Easter if you celebrate and if you don't I hope you had a good Sunday. Today I'm linking but with my blogging buddy Natalie! For this link-up we're asking you to come up with a list of thinks you like about yourself. I've come up with 4 things that I like and I'm going to tell you  and telling you why.

1: My hair
If you look closely you can see the hair better
Most people go around and talk about how they want curly hair, or straight hair, or a different color. I'm going to be honest with you sometimes I want it to be a different color but for the most part I love my hair. I rarely straighten it or curl it for the most part I let it go natural and I love it! Its wavy 9 or of 10 times, sometimes its straight and sometimes and curly. 8 out of 10 times I have good hair days and its my hair, don't care.
2. My eyes

When I look at guy's eyes I'm normally am attracted to brown eyes but I love my blue eyes. Some days they look more blue and sparkly. Plus who doesn't love a blue eyed girl.
3. My legs
Okay so I don't have a picture of them. I felt weird just taking a picture of my legs. But I like them. I might not have legs that are super long, or super thin, or even toned but I have always liked them. I remember seeing my legs reflection one day when I was feeling especially fat and thinking, "Damn, I have great legs!"
4. My personality
I think its important to think that you are beautiful. But I think its even more important that you like who you are. Confidence comes from within you. If you can't like who you are, if you can't think wow, I'm funny or wow I'm smart you are doing a discredit to yourself. My favorite part of my personality is that I like to make friends, I talk to just about anyone and I also think that I'm funny.

What is your favorite things about yourself? Instead of telling me in the comments below link up with me and Natalie.

Wickedly Phenomenal

Hello All,

***SPOILER ALERTS: TODAY I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THE PLAY WICKED AND SOME SPOILERS MAY HAPPEN, WILL HAPPEN. IF YOU HAVE ANY INTEREST IN SEEING THIS PLAY LIVE PLEASE DON'T READ THIS. I DON'T WANT TO GIVE ANYTHING AWAY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED****

A few weeks ago for my birthdya I went to see Wicked (read about it here and here). And I must say it was PHENOMENAL. The music was catch, I still listen to constantly in my car. THe acting was superb like only Broadway can really produce. But the best part was of course the story, characters and of course the plot twists!

Speaking of plot twist, I really am going to talk about them so if you haven't seen it please don't read this, I'll understand.

I loved the music of show with favorite ones being in no particular order...

What is this feeling?

Dancing through life

I'm Not That Girl

Aren't those good? I seriously listen to them all the time.

I loved the love story. I had heard the song I'm not that girl so I knew there was some sort of love story. Every good story in my mind has a love story but instead of only focusing on the love story. Instead they focused on the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba.

I also loved how much of the Wizard of Oz there was. The whole second act was about what was going on during the time Dorothy was there. They tell you how the house dropped on Elphaba's sister, Nessa. they showed what Gilinda was doing when she wasn't helping Dorothy find the wizard. We even found out how the flying monkeys came to be.

Source
My favorite parts were the plot twists. First and foremost starting with the fact that the Wizard who always wanted a child had one, he was Elphaba's sister! It makes you want to hate the Wizard, how could you have your own child killed? But luckily for Oz Glinda sent him away for killing her bestie.

We also found out who the Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man really was.The lion was a coward because he was kept in a cage when he was a cub. But then Elphaba and Fiyero saved because suprisingly, at least to me, a lot of story had to do with animal rights. Anyone who has seen this does this surprise you?

The Tin Man was the boy who Nessa, Elphaba's sister and the one who was crushed by th house, was in love with. But he was instead in love with Glenda and lead Nessa on most of the play. Hence him being heartless.

The final one suprised me slightly which was that Fiyero, the man that both Glenda and Elphaba loved at one point was the scarecrow. Which was sweet because Elaphaba loved him so much that she saved him from the hunters. And he was slightly clueless, hence being brainless.

But you know how at the end of The Wizard of Oz the Wicked Witch of the West dies? Well that didn't really happen instead was Elaphaba and Fiyero ran off into the sunset letting Glenda think they were both dead. Which in my mind was the most heartbreaking part of it all because Glenda didn't want Elphaba to leave her because she was her best friend. Cue the waterworks.

Overall I don't have enough words to describe how much I loved this play. If you've seen the play what did you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Getting Ready to Set Sail: Castway Cay {Week 11}

Hello All,

This post will be filled with personal pictures from my first two cruises because today I'm talking about Disney's private island.

Castway Cay (pronounced Key) is the island that Disney owns and most of their cruises that go out of Florida. There is are a lot of touches of Disney, including places where you can meet the characters in their beachwear. They also have free food, well food that is included in the price of the cruise.

If you ever go on a Disney Cruise and don't plan on getting off the boat on any island, get off there. Its beautiful, its fun and the water is beautiful.

And now I would like share with you a boatload (haha, there's a pun) of photos.
