Tori Came to Visit {April 2015}

Hello All,

Wow the last few week have been super busy and they are just going to continue to be busy. I probably should do a life update in the next weeks to catch you guys up. A few weekend ago Tori came to visit me at school again! Do you guys remember when she came last year? No well you can read about that visit here. But this time Tori came for 2 nights instead of 1!

Friday:
During the day Megan (my roommate) and I had a school event we had to attend and then we watched Ask Me Anything which was really weird and left us with our minds blown but not in a good way. Then we meet Tori half way between mine and Tori's hometown and school. We met her at a Five Guys and had some dinner then. After dinner we went back to school and watch The First Time which is one of our favorite movies.

Saturday:
We got up some what early and got ready to head out. Our first stop was the grocery store to pick up some props. Then we head to the state park Sliver Sands State Park in Milford, CT and did a mini photo shoot for my blog's 2nd anniversary. While we were there we took some other pictures as well.

All the way in the background is Tori and the closer up is Megan

Take 1
Take 2
The cute one
The even cuter one
After beach we went to visit our friend Emili at her work and then headed over to the mall. Our first stop was Buffalo Wild Wings because we were starving! And then we explored the mall and the different stores. I bought two pairs of shoes and new necklace.

After the mall we came back to school and watch a movie and had dinner at the dinning hall. For dessert we order Insomina cookies and played heads up and Foosball. And just had a blast being silly. It was so much fun and I was beyond tired by the end of the night.

Sunday:
On Sunday Megan got to sleep in while I drove Tori back to our meeting spot and met Mama J to see Cinderella (Read the review). I also did a little bit of window shopping with Mama J and then went back to school and hung out with Megan again.

It was such fun weekend and I can't wait to see Tori more over the summer when we're both home from school as well as go on some pretty fun adventures with Megan!

A Missed Chance {Part 3 of 3} - Short Fiction

*Disclaimer: This a short story that I wrote for my English 203 class. The story has been submitted and graded. I decided to share this on here because I am proud of the work. If you missed the first three parts you can read them here and here. Enjoy the final installment!***

The day that Eli will never forget is the day she came to say goodbye before she left for law school. He remembered every detail of that day, it was a rainy Tuesday in late in summer, she walked in around 3 o’clock, and her normally smooth hair was frizzy because of the rain but he didn’t care, he still thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world.

“You ready to go?” he asked as they sat at table and split an order of the restaurant’s top rated bacon cheddar cheese fries.

“Yeah, I’m terrified to go. You sure you don’t want to drop everything and run away to New York with me so that I won’t be out there all by myself?” Sami laughed; it had become a running joke between the two of them, that Eli would just drop everything and go to New York with her.
Eli laughed too, but his was more halfhearted because he wanted nothing more than to do that, but he knew that if he loved her he had to let her go. “You’ll do fine, and if you hate it, you can come home, and I’ll be right here waiting.”

“Good, I think you should audition for some shows in the city. That way I can see you perform, and you might get noticed by a label, you’re good enough to be.”

“I’m not that good; I’m thinking it’s time that I start looking for something real, maybe music should just be a hobby, instead of a career.”

Sami shook her head, “You need to stop selling yourself short; you are way too good to hide your music in dive bars and your basement. And you are too passionate about music to call it a hobby. Trust me Eli, you’ll regret it if you don’t chase after your dreams.”

“I don’t know maybe I'm realizing that I have other dreams too,” Eli said.

“Go after all of them, who says you can only live one dream?” Sami had always been Eli’s cheerleader and even on the day that she needed him to give her a pep talk here she was giving him one.

“What am I going to do without you?” he asked.
“You’ll be fine, and when you need me I’m only a text, tweet or phone call away, I promise,” Sami said with a reassuring smile.

They talked a little bit longer but soon it was time for Eli to clock in for his shift. Sami started giving hugs and saying good-bye to her other co-workers. But finally it was time for her to really leave and say good-bye to Eli. She went over to him and melted into him as they hugged. Tears ran done her face, and she whispered, “I love you, Eli.”

Eli couldn’t muster up words without giving away the fact that he was moments away from tears himself, so he kissed her on her head. She then walked out of the restaurants door, and all Eli could do was stand there and watch.

But now 12 months later, here he was looking at the girl he always loved. “Hi, Eli,” Sami said the smile plastered across her face, “Come here, after a year, I think I deserve a hug.”

Eli walked over and pulled her into the tightest hug. “God, I’ve missed you? How’s school, do you love it?”

“More than I ever thought I could! How have you been? How’s your music?” She asked her eyes filled with questions.

“I’m good; I’m actually the manager here. As for my music hasn’t really changed, I’m still playing gigs, but now I’m also in school so I can teach music to kids.” Eli explained, after watching Sami, leave he decided to take his future more seriously too.

“Wow,” Sami said and part of Eli felt as if she was disappointed, like she had expected more from him.

Then he saw him, another man, wearing khakis, and button-up shirt came up wrapping his arms around Sami’s waist. “Hey Babe.”

“Hey, so this is my best friend Eli, Eli this Clark, my boyfriend.” And just like that Eli realized that the girl he loved didn’t love him. To her they would always just be best friends, because it was true he wasn’t what she wanted. His heart felt as if it had been ripped out of his chest, but he stood there with a smile as he met the man that took his place.

The Missed Chance {Part 2 of 3} - Short Fiction

*Disclaimer: This is short piece of fiction that I wrote for my English 203 class, it has already been submitted for grading. I decided to share it because I am proud of it. If you didn't read the first part you can here, now enjoy the next part.***

The first several months that they worked together they didn’t really talk to each with the exceptional “Hi” and “Bye”. But one night he was playing at a local run-down bar as he finished his favorite, self-written song he saw a long haired blonde girl walk up to the bar. This time she stuck out; she didn’t look like she belonged in a rundown bar, more like dance club where the alcohol was disguised with bright colors and in test tube.
After his set he went out into the audience and asked if she wanted to get a drink with him, she agreed. They then sat there for hours talking and laughing. She was nothing like the girl he had built up in his head. He learned that she wasn’t the spoiled little brat that could just grab Daddy’s credit card and buy whatever she pleases; she didn’t even know who her dad was.
The bartender called final call and Eli finally asked the question he had been dying to know since he saw her walk into a bar. “Why’d you come? You don’t seem much like punk rocker fan.”
“I had the coolest aunt in the world who used to be a groupie for the band, NOFX and then when I was like thirteen she got diagnosed with cancer. She last only about 11 month after diagnosis, but for her whole hospital stay she insisted that punk music be played. And after she died it felt like punk was the only connection I had with her.” She said with a small smile.
“Is it just you and your brother now?” Eli asked.
“Yeah, my mom wasn’t exactly maternal, she spent more time nursing a glass of rum and coke then she ever did taking care of us. When my younger brother graduated high school we moved out, it’s hard at time but we make it work.” While Sami told that story her Eli notice how there was pain behind her confident exterior.
That night was the beginning of everything, over the next year they learned everything about each other and his feelings started to blossom. He told her details about his life that he had never told anyone else. Like the meaning behind his favorite song, about how he feels like his parents look at him a like a failure. She was always there to talk; she’d smile and made him feel like he was worth something. And the day she told him she got into law school he felt his heart fall knowing that
everything was about to change.

That Night {Part 2}

Hello All,

Today on the blog I'm adding the second installment of my short piece of Fiction, "That Night", if you haven't read the first part you do it Part 1!

"Beep! Beep! Beep!" the sound continues over and over, she can slightly see the light through her heavy eyelids. Her eyelids aren't the only heavy part of her body that was heavy, just about everything was heavy, all the way down to her little toe.

She breathed deeply and slowly opened her eyes to find her self staring at an unfamiliar ceiling, she rolled her head to the side to see a man, probably close to 30 asleep in the chair, she didn't know him. She rolled her head slowly to the other side to where the bed side table was. There was a bouquet of purple flower, she rolled her eyes, she hated purple. Next to it was two homemade cards, the first one was on yellow paper with all sorts of blue lines all over the place. The other one was pink with black words that read, "Get Better Mama!".

she looked forward once again and stared at the wall, where was she?

A nursing in light blue scrubs walked into her room, "Well hello Mrs. Matherson." She walks around to her arm and started playing with her tubes coming out of her arms. "How are you feeling today?"

"Where am I?

"Oh, Mrs. Matherson, you must be so confused you were in a car accident a few nights ago, you hit your head pretty bad."

"Why do you keep calling me Mrs. Matherson?"

I'm sorry would your rather I call you Samantha?" The nurse asked, there a was a slight stir from her left.

"Oh sweetie, you're awake, how are you feeling?"

"Whose Samantha? Who he's? Where's mom? Is he okay?"

The man's eyes slightly filled with tears, "Don't you remember me Sami? I'm Alex, your husband."

"My husband! I'm only 15, my first boyfriend broke up with me right before the accident," her head started racing 1,000 of miles an hour, her chest tighten, her heart was beating out of her chest, breathing seemed like a foreign act and her eyes once again felt heavy. Until she let her head fall back against her pillow and land back in the dark.

Blogtember: Short Fiction - Day 13

Hello All,

Today's blogtember post is something that has never been seen on The World According to Emma. Today I have been challenged to write a piece of short fiction. But here's the catch the opening line has to be the same for everybody participating in Blogtember! I haven't looked at the line since I made the original day I posted Blogtember. In a minute I'm going to look up the line and then I'm going to write what comes to my mind. I don't know how much the story will make sense but we'll have to see.

THE BLOGTEMBER STORY:

To say I was dreading the dinner party would be the understatement of the century. For the first time since graduating college I would see the boy who I had spend years pinning over. We met the first weekend of school and he seemed like the perfect guy for me. He was tall strong and handsome.

Why was I dreading seeing him so much? Because the last night that we were all living in the dorms I walked in on him in bed with my best friend in the world. When I saw them together I didn't know what to do. I dropped brownies that me and my roommate had made for them to celebrate our graduation and tears filled my eyes the way a puddle forms in a summer down pour.

I yelled and screamed at the two as if the boy belonged to me. But when I was done I remembered that he wasn't mine. He was single and allowed to be with anyone he pleased.

When I walked into my former roommates house to celebrate her engagement I saw him almost immediately and all the feelings I had in college came flooding back. But instead I squeezed my boyfriend of 8 months hand and remembered that I found someone better.

We walked into the living and everyone laughed and reminisced about the great times we had, had in college. I could feel his big brown eyes burning through me but I refused to look in his direction. In the past couple years I had grown up so much.

After dinner I found myself in the kitchen refilling my wine glass when he walked in. He was shy and awkward as he said hello to me. We stood there starring at each other for what felt like hours.

"I've missed you," he said to me.

I turned my focus back to the dishes that I was watching and mumbled, "Me too."

"I'm really sorry about what happened."

"It was years ago it fine." I reply, refusing to make eye contact with him.

But soon I could feel him behind me. I turned around and our eyes met. Then he shocked me by kissing me.

And I felt nothing! After four years of  pinning I felt nothing. I thought that I would feel everything in the world but no, it was the least sexy kiss I've ever had.

I looked at him for a second and started to laugh. After a few beats he started to laugh to.

"That was..."

"Horrible."

"Pretty much." I said continuing to laugh.

After collecting ourselves we returned to our friends. My boyfriend reached up and put his arm around my shoulder and I knew at that moment that maybe the boy who I thought I loved was never really anyone at all. But maybe just maybe the man I found in my boyfriend was the one.

I hope you all enjoyed The World According to Emma first venture into fiction. I do want to say that nobody in this story is based on anyone in my real life.
