Is Chivalry Dead?

Hello All,

When is the last time you saw a guy open a car door open for his wife/girlfriend/lady friend?

Before last night if you had ask me that question I would probably say I can't remember the last time, but last night I was out to eat with Mama J. We were sitting at a table near the window, and I look up out the window and I see a couple walking to their car, when the got their the  man opened the car door, the women got in and he closed the door. I looked at Mama J and said "Awww look he opened the door for her." But then Mama J pointed out that the man then started fiddling with the car antenta, leaving his, I'm going to assume wife, in the car. 

That's where I got the inspiration for this post. It made think about how you rarely see someone open a car door for a date. Yes, you see people open doors to buildings for people but rarely cars. 

I'm not one of those girls who needs a guy to hold the door open a car door. Yes, I think its sweet and a nice thought. I wouldn't think impolite if I was on date and my date didn't open the car door I wouldn't be insulted if they didn't open the car door. But if they did I would be impressed. 

This all makes me think, is it my generation that  find it normal and okay that the door isn't held open for us? Or has that idea slowly come to end because etiquette isn't as important in our society? What do you think, do you think chivalry is dead? Let me know in the comments below.

Monday Night Yoga!

Hello All,

I'm a little sore this morning! Why? Because last night I went to a Yoga class!

On Monday nights there is a Coffee House in town that hosts a Monday Night Yoga class. Its not widely advertised so its a nice small class. Last night their were only 6 students and an instructor. We found out about the class from a family friend who was goes. And we decide to start.

The group that is in that yoga class is such a nice group of ladies, 1 of  who is the mother of kid that I graduated with. They were cracking jokes and laughing, which I don't know how they did that, if I tired to talk or laugh I lost my balanced. 

Even though the AC was on we sweated hard and that felt amazing. I like when muscles are tingly and I'm super sweaty after I work out. That's how I know that my workout was a good one. When I got home I tweeted:

I really enjoyed the yoga class and I'm planning on going back every week until go back to school, which really is only 2 or 3 more classes considering I leave for vacation and then come back and then move in! I can't believe how fast summer is going!

Big Brother Recap: Week 2

I hope everyone enjoyed there 4th of July yesterday!

But now its time for the Big Brother week 2 recap. I think I have found a format that works for me but I'm not completely sure so if you have any thoughts on the format let me know.

***Spoiler Alert: I will be discussing events that have happened in any Big Brother up to and including the episode that was aired on July 3, 2013. I don't  watch  the live feeds so I will not be discussing anything that was not featured in the edit show!***

Competitions:
This week their were 3 competition but I already discussed the HOH competition in my week one recap and that can be seen here.
The next competition was the Have-Not competition. This week they were split into 3 teams of 5, McCrae as the HOH was the host. The way this competition worked was that four of the team member had to balance a piece of wood by holding one to the rope connected to it. Then the fifth member would have to get into an inner to tub and paddle his way across the Big Brother "lake" to an over sized cooler. When they got there they would then jump into freezing cold water and grab and can of Big Brother Beer. Then have to paddle back across the lake put the can on the piece of wood and carefully switch places with one of their teammates who would repeat the process. This process would continue until the team made a pyramid with 15 cans of BB Beer. If the cans fell they'd have to repeat the process all over again.

In the end the Blue Team came in first making them Haves for the week. The second places team and also haves was the Yellow team. And unfortnately the have nots for the week were the red team, Judd, Andy, Howard, Helen and Elissa. 

The other competition was the Power of Veto with a guest host, Marcela Vallodolid, judge on the American Baking Competition. 

For this competition only 6 houseguest played, McCrae, Candance, Jessie, David, Howard and Elissa. The house guest had fifteen minutes to run from their starting points, to a pit of honey they had to crawl through, in a pit of batter where they were blueberry Balloons. They had to pop the balloons, inside each balloon was a letter. When they found a letter they wanted they would run back to their starting posistion, through the pit of honey and place on their board. They would repeat until they spelled what they thought was the longest word. In the end David came in last without spelling a word (the first time in Big Brother History), followed by Elissa who spelled Pot Roast thinking it was only one word, Candance spelled a 5 letter word, both Howard and Jessie spelled a 7 letter word and McCrae the Pizza Delivery Boy remained in power by winning POV with the word, Delivery. 

Nominations and BBMVP:
This week McCrae was HOH giving him the responsibility to nominate two housenguest for eviction. Before the eviction ceremony McCrae was getting different names from everyone, including Elissa, David, Jessie and Amanda. In the end McCrae's original nominees were...

After becoming the MVP Elissa went to McCrae and told him that she was MVP trying to gain his trust. McCrae tried to convince Elissa to nominate David although Elissa gut was telling her to nominate Nick. But after thinking Elissa made her decision as a way of making and alliance within the house and put up...

After winning POV McCrae had to decide whether he wanted to make the house happy or continue gaining trust of a potential sub alliance. In the end McCrae side with the house and took Candice off the block and put Elissa up. Making this weeks nominees...

This alliance seemed strong and I thought they might make far much like Big Brother 12's all male alliance the Brigade but I predict that this alliance won't make it far after other members discovered that one of their member voted against the alliance. 

Although one of the smartest moves that the alliance discussed making was keeping Elissa with the idea that she would be nominated BBMVP every week. They would use her to make sure that every week she nominated someone they wanted. 

Showmances:
By the time the end of this week ended there were 3 showmances in the Big Brother House!
The first showmance to develop was the one between David and Aaryn.

David said in one of his Diary Room interviews that he came to the Big Brother house for a showmance.

I couldn't agree more Dan!

The second showmance could be labeled the Odd Couple, much like Eric and Jessica from BB8. This seasons Odd Couple is McCrae and Amanda.

I'm personally NOT Amanda's biggest fan. There is just something about her that I don't like and don't trust. I think we may find out that Amanda was using McCrae the whole time and never had real feelings for him. 

The final couple emerged in the live eviction episode so I haven't had much time to think about what I think about these two.

I don't think any of these new showmances have the potential of being another Jeff and Jordan. But I think all the houseguest need to remember...

Drama:
Thursday episode brought drama into the Big Brother House. The house agreed that they would safe the last bottle of wine for midnight when the have nots became haves again. But Aaryn and Jermey decide that they could not wait until midnight to have red wine and snuck it back into one of the bedrooms to drink.

When it was officially midnight the house went to get the red wine when the discovered it wasn't there. The have nots started complaining (could you blame them they had only eaten slop for 5-7 days). Aaryn took as a personal attack and ran to tell Jermey that they were talking behind her back. Jermey went into the house and yelled at them for being upset about the wine.
Eviction:
When it was finally time for eviction I had no clue who was going home, I thought that they votes could go either way. I figured Elissa had Helen and the moving company's vote. I thought David may have everyone else's vote and the Jessie was safe but I'm not completely sure. The vote ended up coming up as...

Elissa-  Aaryn, Candice, Kaitlin, Gina Marie, Jermey, voted to evict
David- Amanda, Nick,  Spencer, Helen, Howard,  Judd, Andy voted to evict
In the end David was sent packing.

Thoughts on the Players:

 Elissa is such a big deal this year because of the fact that she is Rachel (a big brother legend's sister). A lot of the people in the house spent a lot of time this week complaining that she didn't tell people that Rachel was her sister. I would probably do the same thing if my sister was a Big Brother Legend.

When I watched the original interview I thought that Aaryn would be one of my favorite players this season, I thought that she had the potentional of possibly being this years Jordan. But instead I saw a mean girl who I don't really like. From what I've seen, Aaryn hated Elissa but I haven't seen a reason for Aaryn to hate Elissa expect for the fact that she's Rachel's sister. But that's only what I've seen.

I chose David for a few reason, the first reason is because he created an alliance. Whether this alliance works or not doesn't matter as long as he keeps his relationships with members he has four people on his side. Also chose David because realized that he could use Elissa could be an asset to his game if he kept her and gained her trust. That is a duo I would like to see work together.

Throwback Thursday...4th of July

Hello All, 

Happy 4th of July! I hope everyone is having a great day!

Its time for another throwback Thursday, I'm sorry I missed last weeks I had horrible writers block I spend so much time trying to get words on the screen but none of them seemed to work. But I'm back and ready to  link up with Bonnie from The Life of Bon again this week and talk about 4th of July!

The 4th of July has never been a huge deal in my family, we've never really had a BBQ or set off fireworks. Some years we would be at my Grandma's summer house and we watch the town fireworks from her dock. But that wasn't a yearly tradition. 

For a good 6-7 years I did have tradition that I enjoyed a lot. I use to go to an over night camp and the girl's session always fell on week of 4th of July. Every year they would get all the campers together and we would walk about a mile and half into town to watch the town's parade, the way we would sing camp songs and have a great time. When we returned we swim, eat lunch, have our rest hour (a daily hour of rest in our cabin, you could sleep, read, write letter, listen to music, etc..) after rest hour we sit and watch the boat parade and then have a free swim. That night for our evening activity we would have staff run carnival where they would set up games like a bean bag toss or egg on spoon races. Then we would end the evening with patriotic songs watch the town fireworks. It was a cute little tradition and it was a nice break from the day to day events of camp. 

I don't have any pictures of me for this post but here are some pictures from my camp website of the camp. 

Last year I was home for the fourth of July. Mama J and I were just hanging out in the living room when I got a phone call from my neighbor and best friend Tori telling me that we could see fireworks from the top of our hill. I went outside and joined her mother and her started to watch them. After the show end we went to sit on the hill a little further up and spend time catching up. And when I say time we were probably outside for a good hour to an hour and half talking. When all the sudden it start to rain and we ran back to our houses laughing the whole time as the rain got more and more hard. That is actually probably one of my favorite memories of the two of us because it wasn't rain to hard but we rain like we were in the middle of a huge storm. 

Those are my two real Fourth of July memories. And both are pretty good. What are some of your favorite fourth of July memories?

What I Love Wednesday...Reading

Hello All,

Its Wednesday and that means What I Love Wednesday and this week I love reading!

I love the characters I meet like Harry Potter and Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables, my favorite book). 

I love how when I series ends I feel empty, like I've lost a friend whose always been there for me. 

I love the way a book feels in my hand when I'm reading from it, although I don't love how when I'm reading in bed and I can never get comfortable. 

I love when my favorite books get made into movies and I get to see the places and character come to life. I love it even more when the movies is almost as good if not as if as good as the book, unlike  My Sister's Keeper. 

I love when I find someone else who loves the book just as much as I do and we can nerd out together over the little things. 

I love how no matter how many times I read the book the story always remains the same. 

I love how a book can take me to foreign lands or make believe castle. 

I love how books take me out of reality. 

  

I love how books can me think of things differently then I would have before. 

For those reasons and more I love to read.

Adventure in Dogsitting

Hello All,

So, I've been dogsitting for around half a week so far and it actually far easier then babysitting! Mainly  because the only thing that Kizzy wants to do is lay on couch and cuddle. And seriously who doesn't want to spend all day cuddling with a dog?  

Now those of you who read Kizzy's introduction post you already know that Kizzy is going to be staying with Mama J and I for a little over a month. You also know that she a rescue dog, before she came to stay with us she ONLY liked her owner. Since coming to stay with us Kizzy is in love with me. She loves to cuddle with me and will only let me take her outside.

A couple nights ago I had my first adventure in dogsitting that left me bruise (literally). But first I need to give a little background. Mama J and I aren't really sit out  on a deck and enjoy the night type people. But we do have a back deck that goes off from outside our dinning room. We hadn't been out on our deck in 3+ year. But Kizzy's owner told us that Kizzy doesn't really like stairs and since our back deck only has two steps we figured we take her outside via the back deck instead making her go downstairs to our garage door. Are starting to see where this story is going? 

So, Saturday night/Sunday morning (it was 12:30) I brought Kizzy out for her night time "walk" out on the back deck. As I was walking down I was talking to Mama J who happened to walk downstairs at the moment for water or something when all sudden the deck was no longer under my right foot! Yup, I fell through my deck! 

I was shocked, it was one of those moment where you don't know if you're laughing or crying or maybe both at the same time. Mama J had no clue what to do, her face was in shock, it was actually pretty funny. And the dog was glued to my back, like she wouldn't move, the poor thing was terrified!

But the worse thing was that I could get my leg out! I feel deep enough that largest part of leg muscle was stuck under the wood and the deck was too high that I could reach the ground to help push me up! I started pushing myself up using my arms but it hurt my leg so badly, it felt like I had a huge scrape on my leg and hurt it try and pull it out. 

Mama J debated calling 9-1-1 because I couldn't get my leg out but we wanted to avoid that as much as possible because we had the terrified dog glued to my back who would have freaked out more if there were sirens and a bunch of strangers. Mama J and I joked later that if she had tired to call she would have had to say, "Hi, my daughter is suck in the deck and can't get out. Can you please send one officer, without their sirens and lights off. And without their uniform because we have a dog is scared of everything and only like the  person who is stuck in the deck." And I have feeling if 911 had gotten that call it wouldn't have gone to well.

Then I came up with the not so helpful idea but I'll take credit for it. I had heard on old cartoons or sitcoms that butter makes things slippery so Mama J got out our tub of land-o-lakes spreadable butter and started putting it on my leg as close to the wood as possible. The area of my leg that felt like I had scrape started to sting really bad so we realized the butter wasn't going to work.  When I told my cousin this story she told us that vegetable oil would have been better then butter so if you or anyone you know gets stuck in deck hole or in anything use vegetable oil not butter. 

Luckily, I was able to change my position and a little bit and push myself out of the hole. Mama J wanted me to  put my leg up and put ice on it but I started to run around putting the dog in her house (crate where she sleeps at night and while we're out). And there were couple other things I wanted to do before laying down to sleep. But finally I sat down and put my leg up and put ice on it. At that time, about 10 minute after I got my leg out and it was already swollen!

 I ended up going to bed with ice on my leg and it raised. When I woke up the next morning it was a little swollen. Now about 3 days later its a bump that's about 2 inches big and starting to bruise. I'm kind of sad because it doesn't look cool. If something like that's going to happen  I want it to at least look cool.

Movie Review: The Heat

Hello All,

This past weekend I went to The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.

As soon as I saw the first commercial for this movie I knew I had to see because I love Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. So, a movie starring both of them is a must in my book. 

I'm not huge on reading critic reviews on movies or television shows because a lot of the time I disagree with what they say. Mainly because they are looking for aspects that are taught to film students and those aspects aren't necessarily what an average person wants to see in the movies.

From what I heard critics didn't not like this but I on the other hand loved the movie. I thought it was hilarious movie and that both Bullock and McCarthy were great it in. 

The story started out with Special Agent Ashburn (Bullock) who is up for promotion in the New York FBI offices. Her boss tells her that if she wants the promotion that she needs  find the drug lord that is terrorizing Boston. The only problem, Ashburn doesn't work well with others, she's slightly type-A and know it all. When she gets to Boston she gets files on the Drug Lord and discovers that a police stations has just arrested a drug dealer who may have connections to the hunted Drug Lord. Ashburn walks into the Police Station and insist on interrogated the dealer what she doesn't know is that the dealer was arrested by Mullians (McCarthy) who is very rough around the edges and believes that she deserves the right interrogate the man she arrested. So, the story follows both Ashburn and Mullians as they try to track down the drug lord with their two different styling of detective work. The combination of the characters detective styles and baggage they carry from their personally lives make for a hilarious movie. I would definitely recommended this movie if you looking for something funny. 

While I was watching this movie I was impressed with Melissa McCarthy, how she goes from playing a sweet, granted a little cookey Sookie on Gilmore Girls.

To strong headed but put together Molly on Mike&Molly. 

To gross, slightly sex crazed Megan in Bridesmaids.

To an identity thief in Identity Thief.

To Officer Mullians in The Heat

I just love how a pretty, put together actress can play characters who are so off their hinges. I absolutely love Melissa McCarthy, I think she's an hilarious and amazing actress.
